The year 2015 has been and gone so I thought I would give a run down of the best Joomla extensions I first purchased and used during 2015.

My top Joomla Extensions for 2015

The year 2015 was a busy one for me trying many new Joomla extensions and trying out new website ideas and concepts so I have compiled this list to highlight the extensions I have used for the first time during 2015 that have had the most positive impact on my development practices and productivity levels this year.

Kicking things off with social networking

Running an online community or social networking website is an ambitious task and thanks to the team at iJoomla it can be done easily using JomSocial which is a social networking extension for Joomla. JomSocial has a lot of community features such as photo galleries, profiles with unique fields and user status updates, private messaging, groups and more. This was a great purchase for me during 2015 and is a great extension for any website that needs comprehensive user management and user interaction. I also got some third party add-ons for JomSocial from Ready Bytes Software Labs such as JS Profile Type for managing access and settings for different profile types and JS Profile Complete for informing website users of their profile has been completed.

Getting that links website up and running was so easy

Next, we will head into the links directory extension from JV-Extensions that is everything I have ever needed in a links script ready to run inside Joomla. JV-LinkDirectory is a very powerful and easy to use link directory script that can be used to manage a large directory or a simple link exchange directory. With extensive options and even payment plans built into the extension, you will be all set when it comes to a links section with this installed on your Joomla website.

2015 saw the introductions of a more professional support structure across my websites

During 2016 I have found the need to offer technical support and help documentation on some websites and found Freestyle Support Portal which has done the job well. There is more to this support portal than first meets the eye. The support ticket management with email support is fantastic and the extension also allows you to create a FAQs section, Testimonials section, Knowledge Base and a Glossary of terms section. If you want an in one support and documentation solution to complement your Joomla website then this is a good choice.

SEO is an evolving part of website marketing and nobody really knows how to beat the search engines but there are ways to play friendly with them

Getting listed in search engines can be tough if you don't understand the basics of how to get your website ready to be listed and this is what I love about JSitemap Professional Edition from J!Extensions Store. This extension creates the XML sitemaps needed when you submit your website to search engines like google and bing and also offers you some options to create a nice looking HTML sitemap for your website visitors to view. Another good feature is the RSS feed generator to make RSS feeds for your site content easily. There are also tools to help advise you on ways to improve your site for search engines. I highly recommend is you want your Joomla website and articles to be easily indexed by search engines.

the process for other people registering on my websites and sharing content become easier in 2015

JFBConnect from SourceCoast is a complete set of utilities for allowing your website visitors to log in and interact with your website using their exciting social networking accounts. Going far beyond a simple social login script this extension allows you to integrate Joomla with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Yahoo, WindowsLive and many other social networks. I have found it easy to use and have used it with JomSocial.
